Laco$te Ep-The Paradox of Time Art by: Xenia's father

The Paradox of Time

Laco$te is no doubt one of the hardest working electro-noise bands ever! I first saw Laco$te in my hometown of Riverside, CA at a house known then as the Pixel Palace. Tucked perfectly away on a quiet historical street called Chestnut and surrounded by lawyer buildings (which were historical homes renovated into offices) Pixel Palace could get away with playing some of the loudest house shows in So Cal for sure. You could thank then resident’s Adam Cardone (ex-member of Child Pornography, Prayer Partner, and Black Awareness) Erin Allen (member of Child Pornography, Sister Fucker, and High Castle) Artist James Bradley and Gil (Ex-member of American Gil, Quem Quaeritis, and Guitarded also recorded all of us riversidians on reel to reel coolest dude!)  for letting just about any underground band stop through while on tour and just totally relax and fucks things up before heading Northwest to Los Angeles, CA.

Laco$te was then Peter Moran and Xenia Shin I fell totally in love. They laid down the illest beats and spit the phattest raps I heard in a long time and also got down into their underwear in one of the sweatiest, liquor spilt houses in the IE so much respect for that!

Today Laco$te is much different still fronted by Xenia Shin she now has two other accomplices that back her up. Rob Wilkinson and William Caruso absent Peter Moran who is now performing as Essay they are still creating amazing tracks with a much more noise-tech feel. They have strayed from Laco$te’s dance/hip hop roots and are playing more 80′s new wave/noise tracks that engulf you into a whole new world of motherboards and cracked internet shells. They love the movie hackers and believe in a futuristic world where dancing through time is not a metaphor.

The Paradox of Time is a 4 track EP on Manimal Vinyl each track is very well produced and thought out still with a great amount feeling. The artwork for the album was done entirely by singer Xenia Shin’s father who is a professional artist/cartoonist. Laco$te are appreciative of others art and music and have used people’s artwork for past releases and merch.

The tracks though packed with noisy oscillators and gut pounding bass are still surprisingly melodic and rhythmic. You can easily bob your head or jump up and down and really get into their songs during a live set or while mopping your floor with a space helmet on.

Experimental and cutting edge as ever Laco$te delivers a unique space age sound that is unlike most bands in LA. Not to mention they are totally hot! It’s hard not to notice their stylish cyber threads and trendsetting accessories. They are not your local hipsters. They are not your stereotypical computer nerds. They are the closest thing to living cyborgs I have come across thus far. Their knowledge of sci-fi culture and electronic music is uncanny yet they can still quote Dr. Dre or reference anything pop culture from here to anywhere else in the world (Rob Wilkinson knows the answer to just about anything.) I dare you to listen to their latest release and if you are lucky enough to be in the Los Angeles area attend their EP release party where they will be screening their new music video for the single “Numbers”!
